Study Groups were established by Atlanta City Council as part of the Citizen Participation Framework. Each one provides community input for 1/5th of the Atlanta BeltLine project area. They are a long-term general public input and engagement forum for the BeltLine process. Participation is open to everyone. Atlanta BeltLine Inc.'s Office of Community Engagement Advocacy manages the BeltLine Study Groups to assure the broadest opportunity for input and involvement for the residents of Atlanta into the BeltLine’s community engagement process.
To date, Atlanta BeltLine Study Group meetings have primarily focused on Master Planning efforts. For the Master Planning process, the five Study Group areas will be subdivided into 1smaller Subareas for master planning. There are 10 Steering (later named Planning) committees that help guide the Subarea master planning. There are approximately 20 persons on each Planning committee. The Planning committees will engage the issues of parks, land use, and transportation. Once the plans are vetted with the Planning committees, plans are then shared with the Study Groups to confirm that the planning reflects the values and aspirations of the Study Group at large. Following the completion of the Master Planning process, the Planning committee will be disbanded. Click here to learn more about planning efforts underway.
Atlanta BeltLine Community Kick-off Engagement Presentations for all Study Groups were held in March 2007. It is important to have strong attendance to get full representation and input to better inform and engage each Study Group community, so please take the opportunity to join a Study Group. Feel free to contact one of the Study Group coordinators listed for your area.
