The Atlanta BeltLine planning area has seen new development permit activity valued in excess of a billion dollars since 2005. To help implement the land use vision for the BeltLine, the City of Atlanta adopted the BeltLine Overlay Zoning District in February 2007. The ordinance can be found on-line at the City's Bureau of Planning website. Some of the highlights from the ordinance are that it:
- Protects the Atlanta BeltLine rail corridor
- Establishes a streetscape standard to improve the pedestrian environment
- Improves the street grid
- Establishes an urban design framework
- Requires a Special Administrative Permit for most development activity within the BeltLine
Please visit the Implementation/Planning page to learn more about current land use planning efforts. Since July 2007, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc has been master planning the BeltLine. The multi-disciplinary effort includes land use recommendations that will guide implementation efforts in the years ahead. The master plans, once adopted by City Council, form part of the City's Comprehensive Plan (ASAP/CDP) and many of the land use recommendations are incorporated into the City's Future Land Use Plan.
